Developing a real curiosity for science starts by exploring how things move, change and react visually. With online Year 11 Physics tutoring, they do the work live on a shared screen instead of watching someone else do it.
Physics problems are much easier to solve when you can see them. Sessions start with a sketch of the situation and end with your child solving the problem themselves.
Why sketching and unpacking come before solving
Most Physics mistakes happen before any calculation: misreading what’s happening, or grabbing the wrong formula. A quick sketch with arrows, labels and known values catches most of those.
Unpacking a formula, term by term, then makes the choice of formula obvious instead of a guess.
How a session works
Sessions run on Google Meet with a shared digital whiteboard, and Desmos comes in whenever a graph helps. Your child can write with a pen on an iPad, or type and draw with a mouse.
- Check-in: how they’re feeling, and what they’re up to in class.
- Set the focus: upcoming assessments and anything from previous sessions that still needs work.
- Sketch the situation: what’s moving, which way, and what’s known.
- Unpack the formula: what each term means, and what happens if one changes.
- Solve it: your child works through the problem, explaining each step.
- Review and next steps, written into the shared Google Doc.
Over time, the tutor asks fewer of these questions and your child asks them of themselves. That’s the habit that carries into exams.
How we check it’s landing
Signs it’s working
- Your child sketches a problem before starting it.
- They can explain what a formula means in words.
- They choose formulas based on what’s known, rather than guessing.
- Their working shows every step, with units.
Every session’s notes sit in the shared Google Doc, so you can see what was covered at any time.
