Interactive digital whiteboards: making HSC Chemistry concepts visible online

Developing a real curiosity for science starts by exploring how things move, change and react visually. With online HSC Chemistry tutoring, they do the work live on a shared screen instead of watching someone else do it.

HSC Chemistry concepts become much more certain once they’ve been drawn. Sessions start with the picture and finish with the calculation.

Why drawing the concept helps

A proton moving from an acid to a base, an equilibrium shifting, or a carbon chain with a functional group attached: each is easier to understand as a drawing than as a definition. Once your child can draw it, the right calculation becomes much easier to choose.

How a session works

Sessions run on Google Meet with a shared digital whiteboard. Your child can write with a pen on an iPad, or type and draw with a mouse.

  1. Check-in: how they’re feeling, and what’s next in the assessment schedule.
  2. Draw the concept: the structure, the reaction or the equilibrium, built live.
  3. Name it precisely: the organic name, the acid and base, the direction of the shift.
  4. Then calculate: step by step, with your child explaining why each step follows.
  5. Review and next steps, written into the shared Google Doc.

How we check it’s landing

Signs it’s working

  • Your child names and draws organic compounds confidently.
  • They identify the acid and base in a reaction straight away.
  • They choose the right calculation without guessing.
  • Long answers explain instead of describing.

Every drawing and note stays in the shared Google Doc, so you can see what was covered at any time.
