Becoming a better writer happens through conversation, far more than through a checklist of mistakes on a feedback sheet. With online HSC English Advanced tutoring, they do the work live on a shared screen instead of watching someone else do it.
In Year 12 Advanced, sessions help your child do the hardest thing in English: hold a complex idea and express it precisely.
Why conversation sharpens complex ideas
A complex idea usually starts out vague. Talking it through, and being asked “what exactly do you mean?”, is the fastest way to turn it into something precise enough to argue and evidence.
How a session works
Sessions run on Google Meet, and for English the main tool is a shared Google Doc.
- Check-in: how they’re feeling, and what’s next in the assessment schedule.
- Talk through the idea: your child explains their argument out loud, and the tutor asks questions until it’s precise.
- Write: your child drafts or redrafts in the shared doc.
- Review together: the turns of phrase that work well, the things that could be stronger, and any sentence where sophistication has replaced meaning.
- Next steps: what to work on before next session, written into the doc.
Most edits change the order of ideas or sharpen a sentence, rather than replacing the content.
