If you’re weighing up the best HSC Modern History tutoring, ask how progress will be tracked across the year. In Modern History, the work done early shows up in every assessment that follows.
School assessment and the HSC exam each make up half of a student’s final HSC mark, with assessments running from Term 4 of Year 11 through to the trials.
What progress looks like in HSC Modern History
| Area | Where many students start | What we count as progress |
|---|---|---|
| Sources | Gathered just before each task | A source bank built steadily from the start |
| Essays | Complex, twisty arguments | Clear, well-structured arguments |
| Evidence | General claims | Specific evidence in every paragraph |
| Preparation | Cramming before assessments | Steady preparation through all three terms |
How we measure it
The starting point. Every student begins with a free 30-minute intro session, where the tutor learns how your child feels about school, the marks they’ve been getting and the marks they’d like, what they’re working towards, and the rhythm of their week.
The drafts and the source bank. Google Docs keeps every version, so essays from Term 4 can be compared with essays from the trials, and you can see the source bank grow.
Session notes and the tracker page. After every session, the tutor’s notes record what you worked on and how your child went. The top of the shared Google Doc holds recent marks, tutor comments, confidence, and your child’s check-in interview answers, and the interview is repeated at the start and end of each term.
What you’ll see, and when
| When | What happens | What you’ll see |
|---|---|---|
| Term 4 (start of Year 12) | Intro interview, source bank started | A starting point for marks, confidence and HSC goals |
| Terms 1 and 2 | Assessments, with sessions building toward each | Each result on the tracker, with comments |
| Term 3 | Trial HSC exams | Trial results beside earlier assessments |
| Before the HSC | Final preparation | A full source bank and a set of clear essay plans |
An honest note: starting sources early feels slow at first, when the HSC seems far away. It’s what makes the final months calmer.
